Today Riverview Blog Squad made an excellent explosion outside and had a blast. Below we are going to tell you how you can do this fantastic, amazing experiment at home. Warning, this is a fun but messy and sticky experiment (although it smells tasty!) – try it outside! Make sure you stand back before it goes pop!
Equipment
Film capsules
Fizzy vitamin tablets
Water
Tissues/a mop
Method
- Set up your experiment but keep the fizzy vitamin tablets in a safe dry place.
- Fill a third of the film capsule with water.
- Next, you have to be incredibly quick. Drop the tablet into the water and place the lid on the film capsule very tightly and turn it over (make sure the lid is on the bottom).
- Finally, take a step back and wait. You might need to be patient but it will pop and the capsule will fly into the air!
Why does it work?
It works because the tablet dissolves in water. When the tablet dissolves in water it releases a gas which causes the pressure to build and make it go pop!
It’s a really fun experiment and we really recommend it as a way to enjoy science week.
