Mrs Dusanjh joined Riverview Junior School at the beginning of 2018 so Blog Club went along to find out what she thinks of our school and how she’s getting along. We also thought it would be the perfect opportunity to ask a few of her top tips for the year 3 students joining us in September. Read on to find out what was said.
Interview with Mrs Dusanjh
How do you like this school?
I’m really enjoying it. The people I meet are lovely, the staff are really friendly and the children are adorable. They are very polite and well mannered.
Do you agree with our school rules?
I most definitely agree with them, I particularly like the ‘Show me 5’ and I agree with the consequences for bad behaviour.
The students joining us in September as the new Year 3 may be nervous at the idea of coming to junior school, how will you be welcoming them?
I’m very excited to be teaching them the Riverview Junior School style and making sure they understand what our expectations are at school. I am more than sure they will feel safe and very comfortable in our school. To help them settle in, I will be looking to understand what makes them nervous and I’ll work on that. for example, if they’re nervous as it’s such a big school and they can’t find their way around, I will accompany them around the school until they know their way. I can also ask our Golden Ties to help them.
Would you be willing to introduce a new game to help the Year 3’s with their maths?
We’re already doing that and have introduced some new techniques and some fantastic ideas to make learning more fun. For maths, I like to use cubes or bead strings.
How would you stop the first day nerves?
By praising the children for everything they do correctly. It’s a big leap from Infant to Junior school and children need time to learn about their new school, the new routine and the expectations they will be looking to meet. Praise is a wonderful way to encourage children to be the very best they can
What would you do if someone was messing about in a lesson?
I’d turn their card and give them a warning. They must understand straight away that the classroom is not the place for messing around.
What would your dream job be?
A private tuition school or my own teaching business.
What would you change?
Make sure we have enough resources for learning in a fun way.
How could a child show all the core values?
Copy all the role models and try their best all of the time.
We are ready to welcome you Year 3 with open arms. If you have any trouble or are worried about anything look out for our Golden Ties or any of the friendly Year 6 pupils who will be glad to help you.
