Miss Towell has spent a lot of time this year updating the school library and all of the books each year group has to read. The new Accelerated Reading program has shown that Riverview Junior School pupils LOVE to read and it has also shown that reading makes learning so much easier. We are really happy that the program will be open to everyone as of September!
Miss Towell has fueled our school with books of all different genres and sizes and she has included a fantastic series of books called ‘Percy Jackson’ which go in order of the following.
Percy Jackson and the lightning thief (377 pages)
Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters (279 pages)
Percy Jackson and the Titans curse (312 pages)
Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth (400 pages)
And finally: Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (381 pages)
As you can tell, these books are quite advanced and very thoroughly detailed, so I’d probably make sure that you know you can read them before you pick them up. These can only be found in the year 6 pearl section (the highest level of reading in Riverview Junior School) so that’s where you can find them if you want to read this amazing series of books.
More about the author and his other books
The books are by Rick Riordan, who has made many other books, such as ‘Big Red Tequilla, which became the first book in the Tress Navarre series, but his first big breakthrough was Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, Rick Riordan also wrote onto The Kane Chronicles and The Heroes of Olympus, the sequel to the Percy Jackson series. Riordan also helped Scholastic Press publish The 39 clues series and spinoffs, and penned its first book, The Maze of Bones. His most recent publications are three books in the Magnus chase and the Gods of Asgard series, based on Norse Mythology- a thing that Vikings believed in.
My personal opinion
I read these books really quickly one after the other and now I’m on The Heroes of Olympus series which are just as good. If you love adventure, problem solving and a touch of romance then these books are for you.
